Malawi Rice Challenge
A visit in September 2018 by 2 rice farmers from Malawi.

Malawian Rice Farmers
Two rice farmers Howard and Webster from Malawi came and talked to St John's about the rice challenge. Our support through buying 90kg of their Kilombero rice has enabled one of the local Malawian children to continue their secondary school education for another year. John Riches from JTS manages the scheme here in the UK.

The Rice Challenge
A successful visit from two Malawian rice farmers Howard Msuka and Webster Mito to St Johns in September 2018. John Riches from JTS helps coordinate the rice challenge here in the UK. Smallholder farmers in Northern Malawi are some of the poorest and the rice challenge helps them send their children to secondary school which is not free in Malawi.

St Johns Church

Church Interior before the pews
This was the original interior of the church. Note lots of chairs but no pews in the nave and the carved wooden pulpit was not yet in situ. Lots of beautiful sunlight streaming in as in modern day.

Old external view of St Johns
Another early picture but this time note the railings on the outer wall. These would have been removed during the second world war to assist the war effort. Note no whitebeam trees in the church grounds and also the interesting road surface.

Old Photo of church exterior
A picture of the completed church including tower, entrance porch and west end extension. No clock yet.

Original church
This was the original church without the tower and without the nave extension and entrance porch. Note the original entrance was at the south side of the church (essentially the back of this picture).

Rainbow over St Johns
A marvellous picture of a rainbow over Ben Rhydding taken some years ago before the installation of our modern notice board.

The Fisher Window
The stained glass window depicts Peter and disciples fishing. Presented by Mary Bickerdyke in memory of her parents, brothers and sisters. Made by Harrison and Andrews of Hull.

The East Window
A lasting memorial to all who died in the Great War 1914 - 1918, it is often brilliantly lit by the morning sun.

The Font
The beautiful stone font at Harvest Festival with the baptistry stained glass window (1963 by E Pickett & Co of Leeds).
