Worship Services

The present Sunday worship pattern is normally as follows BUT IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS.

  • 8am – Holy Communion service following the 1662 Book of Common Prayer for approximately 45 minutes every week except 5th Sunday.
  • 10am – this service varies throughout the month as follows:
    • on the first and third Sunday - Holy Communion using Common Worship with a mixture of modern and traditional music, plus crèche, Sunday School and Pathfinders for the chidren
    • on the second Sunday - a more informal Family Service with a mixture of modern and traditional music for approximately 45 minutes
    • on the fourth Sunday - Celebration Praise with contemporary worship songs and music with  crèche for under fives.
    • on any fifth Sunday a more reflective Healing Service with Holy Communion.
  • 6pm - every 2nd and 4th Sunday there is a prayer service lasting around 45 minutes.

All but the Celebration Service are led by the music group, with a variety of piano- and occasionally organ-based music used, together with guitar, cello, flute and clarinet accompaniment as appropriate. The Celebration Service is led by a contemporary worship team, lending a more informal atmosphere to this service. There are also a wide variety of special services throughout the year. Please see the calendar for details of up and coming special services.

St John's welcomes everyone to come to any of our Services. Hymns and songs of worship are displayed on our special screen and a small number are printed each week and are available in large print. St John's has good access for those with disabilities and has a hearing loop for those hard of hearing. A number of the congregation take part in reading the lesson and leading intercessions and we aim to make all of our worship services welcoming to all.
